In our busy world, time seems to be moving faster than ever.

Consciously taking deep breaths can change our daily life. By focusing on our breath, we stay in the present moment and let go of life's chaos. This simple act calms our nerves, giving us inner peace and strength. Ultimately, cultivating this habit helps us face challenges with grace and makes our lives richer. 

Project Breathe was created to give us all the space to rediscover our inner spaciousness.

This beautiful 10-acre parcel of forested, meadowed, mountainous land on the Olympic Peninsula has been our “project breathe” for ten years. We are now in the final stages of construction on our dream cabin, designed entirely by Indra, and our family would love to share this magical place with you. We hope you love it as much as we do.

About

The Space

Our cabin, which we call Project Breathe, was born from dreams created over years of camping on this beautiful property. We knew we wanted to build a structure that celebrated the stunning natural environment and allowed for constant communion with nature. Project Breathe is perched at the top of a foothill of the Olympic Mountain Range that descends to the vast waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Due to its mountain-top location, the views of the water, mountains, sunsets, and the natural world are stunning. The home is built with two lovely bedrooms and a bathroom on the main floor. The primary bedroom features a well-appointed king sized bed while the second bedroom is a queen-sized bunk bed comfortable for kids or adults. The bathroom has a gorgeous glass shower and hand-hewn marble flooring. The upper level boasts a spacious kitchen and living room framed by floor-to-ceiling windows and two sets of french doors so the view is visible no matter where you are. The entire house features heated floors and the structure itself is ICF construction so incredibly eco-friendly. The upper level has an amazing wrap-around deck encircling the structure, which was inspired by the fire lookout towers that still dot the remote wilderness areas of the Pacific Northwest. Expect high-quality furnishings and linens, a well-stocked kitchen, and comfortable spaces within which you can relax and let go. We have intentionally chosen not to install a television or internet so that you may disconnect from technology and reconnect with you, your loved ones, and this incredible natural environment.

The Land

Port Angeles, the nearest city, is a remote place, yet surprisingly easy to get to from most of the Pacific Northwest. On your way, stop in Port Angeles to enjoy great resturants, walk the trail along the coast, and shore up on healthy food at the food co-op. You’ll then head west to the sparsely inhabited area between PA and Lake Crescent which will be your home away from home. As you approach our cabin, the final leg of your journey is to drive up our steep and winding gravel driveway which will lead you, literally, to the top of a mountain. As soon as you arrive, you will feel a change…perhaps a long exhale as you take in a special and rare view. Perhaps there will be clouds below you or around you as you watch the ferry to Victoria, BC make it’s crossing, or maybe you’ll see eagles flying above the mouth of the newly restored Elwha River. Mt Baker and the mountains of Vancouver Island are breathtaking on a clear day. The property itself feels remote and is primarily forested with many places to walk and explore. The area around the home is a beautiful meadow with dozens of native flowers and shrubs and even more varieties of native birds. You will wake up with the song birds and fall asleep with the tree frogs. The best part (well, best after the sunsets), is that Salt Creek Recreation Area, Freshwater Bay, and Lake Crescent are all close by and are some of the most beautiful places in the US. Whether you come to hike, play, explore, or relax with a book, you will love your stay at Project Breathe.

  • The cabin is located near Joyce, WA (off Highway 112) on the Olympic Peninsula, near Lake Crescent and Olympic National Park. Once your reservation is confirmed, detailed instructions and the exact address will be sent.

  • Access is up gravel road (for approximately 2 miles) up the hill to your final destination. The last half mile is the steepest. 4x4/All Wheel recommended but not necessary as long as conditions are not snowy/icy.

    Unfortunately the home is not well equipped for ADA accessibility due to the gravel driveway and the kitchen living room is on the second story.

  • Recreation: Salt Creek/Tongue Point Recreation Area for hiking and beach time and tide pools; Freshwater Bay Rd is just across the 112 from our road and is a gorgeous bay with epic tide pools at low tide and lots of wildlife; Hurricane Ridge is just above Port Angeles; Lake Crescent is about 20 mins from the cabin; The Hoh Rain Forest and Forks are an hour away; and Sol Duc Hot Springs is great for hiking as well as the hot springs and this is 45 mins away.

    Food: Lots of restaurants in PA and breakfast/lunch at the Blackberry Cafe is a staple.

  • Kids are warmly welcomed but we do ask that kids are supervised at all times. We do have a 360° wraparound deck and even though it has a railing, it is imperative that all children are supervised on the deck.

  • Dogs and pets are not allowed at this time. It is a new build with high-end finishes including a huge cream colored wool rug…it’s not set up well for dogs.

  • The kitchen has basic cooking supplies such as cooking oil, salt and pepper but is fully stocked with pans and appliances. Bring your own food and beverages.

    The home is fully stocked otherwise; you shouldn’t need to bring more than your clothing.

  • Depending on where you are coming from, you may choose to take a ferry from Edmonds on the Seattle side or from Whidbey Island to Port Townsend. If you are coming from Victoria BC, the ferry arrives right in downtown PA.

    Or you can drive up the Hood Canal which is a gorgeous drive.

  • You will most likely have cell phone service but we do not have internet. Please call 911 if needed. The address is registered. You will also find a first aid kit if needed in the main bedroom closet.

    For issues with the home, please reach out to us. We will provide you with all contact info when you book.

  • We have a 14 day cancellation policy. If you cancel 14 days or less before your booking, we will not refund your fee. The sooner you cancel, the easier it will be to fill your days. But please do try to honor your reservation. It creates extra work and stress for everyone if you cancel.

  • Project Breathe is located on top of a mountain sitting at about 1500 ft. You will have beautiful views of the weather changing in front of you every five minutes. You may also see rain storms and the sun shining and a rainbow all at the same time. Due to this, during the winter, there is also a risk of being caught in a snowstorm.

    We strongly recommend that you leave the cabin if more than a dusting of snow is expected unless you are comfortable staying there for a few extra days until the snow melts or we can get the driveway plowed. If the power goes out, which is unlikely, there are multiple flash lights and the the heat for the home and the water heater will still work as they are gas. If you need to cancel due to unsafe conditions such as snow or ice on our hill, we will credit you with the full amount you paid to use at another time. We will not offer refunds for inclement weather in your area. If you end up staying an extra night or two due to too much snow on the road to drive down, we will absorb that cost.

Connect

We purchased this land in 2015 after falling in love with the Olympic Peninsula. This extraordinary place has been with us through love, loss, change, and the birth of our two amazing children. We’ve been camping here joyfully the whole time and each of our kids did their first camping trip here when they were only six weeks old. This land holds a special place in our hearts, where we've discovered the beauty of the ordinary and the extraordinary. Our decision to share this haven with you is rooted in a desire to spread joy and celebrate the abundance we've found here. We have also found that stepping out of our busy lives and immersing ourselves in the natural world has kept us grounded and connected. We wish for you also to have access to this healing place.
